I had a similar issue when I moved from pre-compiled binaries to
compiling from SVN.

It was suggested to use dpkg-deb -x to extract the mythtv-backend deb
file and then copy the etc/init/mythtv-backend.conf into place.

You can check /var/cache/apt/archives on your system to see old /
recent packages.
