You can run 0.23 just fine on 9.10, just use JYA's repository (
http://avenard.org/media/Ubuntu_Repository/Ubuntu_Repository.html ) or
the Mythbuntu Auto-builds ( http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds )

Not a proper answer, but it might get you out of trouble.
