technically you are right... however if I recall correctly h.264 was a
late addition to the standard... and the UK implementation standard
(which don't forget goes back to OnDigital in the 90's) says MPEG2; so
none/few of the set-top boxes will support h.264, which means
disgruntled consumers.

DVB-T2 is also an improvement (I understand - I am no expert) in
allocation/usage of bandwidth on a MUX.
