I have been using one on my box for a few years and haven't really had
any problems with it on both Cox and Verizon.  Have you verified that
the signal strength is good? That sounds like the problems I was
having with Cox before I added an amplifier.  Another option to
troubleshoot, if you have  a Windows laptop, is to download the Fusion
software and see if it works, that way you can see if it is something
with your linux/myth install.
