OK, I tried this last night with a couple of hiccups.  It does appear
to make some of the scenes smoother, but overall, not much difference.
 The video I tested with I encoded to pal framerate, and xrandr (or
whatever mythtv does to switch modes) set the display to 53hz, but
with -v playback, I can see the framerate jumps around constantly in
the video.

I do not know if this is avidemux (mencoder) that Itranscoded with or what...

A side affect was that after changing display properties, the mouse
cursor will no longer stay "hidden" from the screen.  I could not get
it to go away no matter what I did.  Had to just throw it to the
bottom right corner.
