Since those items never show up, I can not select them to get the description.

ALSA:hdmi:CARD=HDMI 			allows only stereo. LPCM is checked but grey, no other options. Description does claim AC3 and DTS
ALSA:iec958:CARD=Intel,DEV=0 		same as above
ALSA:default				allows 7.1 LPCM is not grey, no other options. Description does claim AC3 and DTS
ALSA:surround??:CARD=Intel,DEV=0 	all claim 7.1 capability.
PulseAudio:default 			supports up to 7.1
ALSA:pulse				same as above
