It seems to me the reason this happens is that the program changeover, which is frequently on the hour, is associated with the 
ending of writing one livetv recording file with the beginning of another.  (It may possibly also be associated with a change of 
program resolution with the change of content.  No doubt other reasons also)

It seems to me that the file changeover happens linearly/serially, which has to therefore have a pause, which is seen.

Would it be prefereable to have this transition occur in parallel, to eliminate the gap / pause?  I imagine in this case that the 
buffer starts say 10 seconds prior to the time the file is to be closed and ensure a seamless transition?
