Gotta love sound problems, anyways - 

I am running sound out my sound spdif to my hometheater amp working fine
in .23.

Open up a term window and become root. Type in "alsamixer" and adjust
your settings. I had to choose the correct sound
device (f6) and then I just played a video in the background and stated
turning on/off my spdif's until I found the correct one as
I had a few to choose from.
