Myth's default behavior is to disable Pulse and access ALSA directly.
Remember that Pulse is nothing more than a sound server, and requires
ALSA itself to access the sound hardware. By setting that environmental
variable, you have told MythTV to ignore pulse and leave it running.
Pulse has been known to cause issues with MythTV for nearly all who have
tried it, which is why it is disabled by default. Specifically, you
will have severe audio/video sync issues.
