So cut it down, if it's cut for the FM band it will want to be shorter for 
channel 9. Be sure to short the ends.

Sounds like you are a ham, or at least an ex-ham. Have you considered a Zep 
:-) Or a beer can vertical?

Then there is my favorite, a DDRR (Directional Discontinuity Ring Radiator). 
There's a good writeup on them in my copy of the ARRL handbook, unfortunately 
it's the 1964 edition, which may be hard to find today, but that's when I got 
my license.
