Hi Folks;
I tried searching for any help here, but didnt find anything yet, so here
goes:
I have been running a successful Mythbuntu BE/FE system, with a remote FE
for a few weeks now.
The only problem I have not been able to sort out is this:
The BE gets extremely slow after a few days. The symptoms include :
On the BE:
greyed screens & extremely long page loads in firefox, loading any program
is extremely slow - local use of the BE becomes impossible.
(The Local FE was only used during setup & troubleshooting, no longer used
since I setup the remote FE)
On the remote FE:
It loads / runs fine, except when the BE exhibits those symptoms, then the
FE will freeze when going to the Recorded Media list, and loading the System
Status page is slow.
If I reboot the BE, everything is fine until a couple days later.
( can record 2 programs at same time and see no local slowdown immediately,
although I can hear the data being dumped to the SATA
drive...chunk...chunk...chunk)
Commercial flagging & any transcoding is scheduled to only take place from
Midnite to 5 am, since CommFlag gobbles up most of the cpu)
quick system rundown:
Ubuntu 9.1 with mythtv BE & FE installed later
MB: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H
CPU: AMD Phenom X2
Mem: 1GB
HD : OS on 320GB SATA
LiveTV: recorded to folder on same HD as OS
Recordings: recorded to separate 1TB HD
(this drive dedicated to Mythtv - sans LiveTV)
[ I had to add this drive, since I filled the 320GB in about a week :-) ]
Tuner: Hauppauge pvr-500 (using both tuners, recording from cable-tv)
all recording are SD -
the remote FE is:
MB: Asus A7N266-VM
Video: Nvidia 6200 based
Playback: SD only - still fiddling with best decoding/de-interlacing
settings
Any help in pointing me to the right path would be greatly appreciated...
the WAF is good, except when she cannot use the BE locally!!
Thanks in advance, Chris
