Are you by any chance running a surround sound setup?  I often get this
with mine if the center channel speaker gets disconnected.  Most of the
dialog is in the center channel, so all you get is ambient echos without
it.

The ads blast audio through all five channels in order to get max volume,
so they come through clearly no matter what.
