The pair of eyes is the "watched" indicator. They should automatically be 
active when the recording has been watched. The setting is under 
Configuration -> Settings -> TV -> Playback. There is in the top right a 
checkbox with "mark recordings as watched" or so.

About the spirals. Are you using the latest theme version from 31.12.2009?
They should work.
