Well....this is how by command line.

This is on a new mythbuntu 9.10 install, where default nvidia driver was selected during intial install process and nothing more.
Initial update done, keys and repo added as per http://www.avenard.org/media/Ubuntu_Repository/Ubuntu_Repository.html and sudo
apt-get update done ok.
Checking MCC the 185 driver is already activated by default

:~$ sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-185 nvidia-185-libvdpau nvidia-185-kernel-source

nvidia-glx-185 is already the newest version.
nvidia-185-libvdpau is already the newest version.
nvidia-185-kernel-source is already the newest version.
nvidia-185-kernel-source set to manually installed.

:~$ sudo apt-get install libvdpau1

Reboot - default display driver now runs as there is now an X problem.
Go into synaptic and remove the broken packages using the filter.
Select nvidia-glx-195 and install.
Reboot.
Continue installing....

Perhaps someone can see what a number of us are doing wrong here? Still the above works, just probably not quite as might have been
intended.
