>>If you're listening to an AC3 audio track, there's nothing you can do.

bummer!

>>AC3 passthrough sends the raw audio data straight to the receiver with
no processing and the receiver does all the DAC and processing.

understood. thats what I thought.

>>You could also enable "use internal volume," then the volume
control will work but the tradeoff is resampling of the audio.
If you're not using 5.1 AC3 a lot, it might be worth it.

Tried that. Checked "use internal volume". Increased internal volume
level to 100. Still the sound level coming out through the receiver
is lower compared to other sources.

I have the A/V signals sound coming through HD-PVR. I saw in the wiki
(http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HD-PVR)that there is an option to
boost the audio output in HD-PVR

boost_audio=1

Will that help? I might give it a try.

While googling I also found that Windows users have access to a program called
ac3filter that can boost level output through spdif. Is there anything similar in Linux?
