Thanks Mike, that makes sense.
The video cards in my frontends are not VDPAU-capable so that is not an
option for now. After a lot of trying I can't get the OpenGL renderer to
work on my Intel i915-based video card (blank screen during playback,
although the OpenGL painter does work) so I guess I'll have to live with
this.
