The interface where you are seeing corrosion has solder, flux, the 
original contact material and probably some moisture. It's a veritable 
Witches Brew of chemicals that will eat anything over time. The heat 
added when the solder bead was applied got things off to a good start.

Other than replacing the contacts, I don't really see any good solution 
once you have got to the point you are at. Continuing the way you are is 
about the only answer.

The real problem is poor design in the first place, again if I had paid 
hundreds of dollars for something so crappy I'd not be a happy camper.
