Hi John:

This is on MacOS X 10.6, right?  Was the app built with MMX disabled?  I don't know, but that might be the difference.  The first .24-fixes I built had MMX disabled and the OSD took 8-10 seconds to be displayed and then disrupted playback for 2-4 seconds went it disappeared.
