BTW, the longest life drive I've ever had spinning was an IBM DeskStar 4.3GB drive that was in my RS/6000 server that spun continuously since we bought the server in 1996 until I retired it last year. (very sad. I love AIX's LVM.)
ANYWAY, the drive was just starting to show signs of bearing noise.
Otherwise, I had some Hitachi DeskStar drives (after IBM sold it to them) that were 125GB IDE and 1 failed just outside the 12month warranty. (And I mean like a couple DAYS outside warranty.)
I yelled at them. They replaced it for free. But I also stopped buying them.
A friend of mine refers to the Hitachi buyout as to when the model changed to DeathStar.
Oh yea.
