Would be interested to hear success stories as I'm in the market for an inexpensive remote to replace my dying Radio Shack one (requires really hard keypresses).

You might not need to change the old remote. I've managed to resurrect old remotes more than once by opening them, washing the membrane or keys with soap (I'd suggest taking a picture of the remote to make sure the keys get back to the same spot if they are not on a membrane) and wiping the topside circuit with a lightly damp cloth. If it is really old, you can try applying a led pencil on the metal pads under the keys to strengthen the metal contacts!!

Of course, you have to be really careful if you decide to follow this, and probably not on a Saturday night!
