The proper way to deal with Fedora is:

Always, ALWAYS do full yum updates against Fedora's main repos,
e.g. the release and the updates-released repo. That is independent of
any 3rd party repo(s) you use, you need to stay current with Fedora as
it is a rather rolling release API/ABI wise.

Next I'd also add ATrpms to the same treatment, but even if you do not
want to then just have a dry run with yum update against a fully
enabled ATrpms to see what ATrpms would suggest to update. Then you
can cherry pick what you need. This is especially useful if you use
atrpms-testing, not so much for plain atrpms, but everyone has his own
update plan, so shape yours as you see fit. Just don't skip Fedora's
own updates.
