And several other similar function devices, I remember the Belkin being a particularly sorry example, all had the same limitations, we were trying to do PTP over them but tried a few other things for the hell of it, harddrives, ok but slow, hasp dongles, no success, rs232 adaptor, fine, ptp was ok but very slow throughput and some remote camera functions failed completely. The control software developers extended some buffering which helped a little but not a success, tried with various Canon and Nikon pro cameras.
One device's driver looked promising as it appeared to have a configurable IP broadcast address but sniffing it showed it still used manufacturer mac prefixes to find the adaptors and couldn't be overridden. Difficult to achieve mac spoofing across a third party mpls wan! Without exception all the drivers were of awful quality and caused major performance problems when transferring data.
Sorry if I'm ranting, the things left a bad taste...
I'd skip the whole bodge adaptor concept and maybe look at wireless USB or some other designed into the USB spec solution.
