Speaking from experience here, the 31566 will likely include flags for
HD programming, but the 12377 will not. I somehow set my system up to
prefer HD, but I don't completely recall where I did this. Here's my
setup:
10--WAND--11278 (Analog and Digital, both share same channel number
and XMLTVID to avoid duplicates)
10-1--WAND-HD--30925 (This is digital and is where the HD programs will show)

I prefer that it record from the digital feed, since it looks better,
so I set up my cards thusly:
Analog-priority 0
Digital1-priority +1
Digital2-priority +1

This way, it will record from channel 10, but the digital version (if
available) before the analog version. Then I also set up a rule
somewhere to add another priority for HD-flagged content, which will
then prefer 10-1.

Perhaps you could find where this HD priority is, and add a -1
priority for that, so it prefers SD on digital.
