Yep, It's a HTC Dream / TMobile G1 using 1.6 firmware.

I just checked a Motorola Milestone and it has the same issue on 2.0.1
firmware. 2.1 is available soon; you never know it maybe fixed.

I would've expected to be able to drop the quoted text; but no such luck.
