Perhaps you have an EEE Box with an inernal IR Sensor. to check that run
"sudo hal-device|grep pnp_ITE8". If the output looks like:
48: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_ITE8713'
linux.hotplug_type = 2 (0x2) (int)
linux.subsystem = 'pnp' (string)
pnp.id = 'ITE8713' (string)
info.subsystem = 'pnp' (string)
info.product = 'PnP Device (ITE8713)' (string)
info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_ITE8713' (string)
linux.sysfs_path = '/sys/devices/pnp0/00:09' (string)
info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer' (string)
you need to jump in the xbmc guide to the German/Asian Edition http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO_preform_a_Miminal_Ubuntu_and_XBMC_install_on_a_Asus_EeeBox_PC_EB1501#EB1501_German_.2F_Asian_Edition
