I use Debian - and that policy, while I agree with it, can be a PITA.  
For example, some firmware images aren't included with the kernel, which 
means that things that "just work" don't, in debian.  So caveat emptor - 
be aware of the policies your distro is using, and know how to work 
around and through them.
