I'm waiting for the brown stuff to hit the fan when thousands of
people find that their expensive "HD Ready with integrated Freeview"
TV's won't show HD when it comes along. Just over 5 weeks now, then
the fun starts ;-)
<rant mode>Locally (I'm in the Granada region due for switchover next
month) one of the local engineering institutions had someone speak
about the switchover (I think they might have been from DigitalUK). I
raised the question of all this "HD Ready" kit that won't do HD, and
the person doing the presentation simply didn't see an issue, and
besides "we're only responsible for getting people on a basic
service". To say I thought that was a short sighted attitude would be
an understatement ! It has to be said that I am not at all surprised
- the whole process has been a complete disorganised mess. If they'd
actually thought ahead and planned for this then they'd have mandated
integrated receivers several years ago and the majority of people
would have got them by now by natural replacement - but no, they
allowed analogue only sets to be sold right up to 12 months before
switchover.</rant mode>
