[mythtv-users] Blinking lines in LiveTV/Recorded Video

Thanks very much, Mark.
I did find out the playback profile settings that should be the root cause of the blinking lines problem.
It does require a bit effort to dig out the deinterlace settings 'bob' in the playback profile settings

settings->playback->blayback profiles (3/9)
Current Video Playback Profiles: CPU+ ==> High Quality

The default value was CPU+, which have the blinking lines problem. Slim/Normal works fine, the video quality is very good; there is no blinking lines or blinking fonts; the OSD border is very stable, clear, and never blinking. To me it seems CPU+ profile setting has some problem with it.

CPU+ Profile has the following details as show on screen:

if rez <= 720 576 & > 0 0 -> ffmpeg & Xvideo
if rez <= 1280 720 & > 720 576 -> XvMC
if rez <= 1280 720 & > 720 576 -> libmpeg2
if rez > -0 0 -> XvMC
if rez > 0 0 -> libmpeg2 & Xvideo

And my recording settings for 'default' and 'LiveTV' are both 480x576; thus I suspect with CPU+ profile it is using XvMC for playback, and the de-interlace method is set as 'bob (2x)'. This is one with problem.
If I set the playback profile to either Slim, Normal, or High Quality Profile, the default playback method is 'ffmpeg & quarts', and the de-interlace method is 'Linear Blend'. This one has pretty good playback quality.
So, the problem is solved, cheers :)

I guess there should be some simple document describe the difference of those de-interlace method, which may affec the playback quality a lot.
Another curious question is that why in the encoding settings, there is nothing deal with the de-interlace thing?

Is there anyone can duplicate the similar problem? Should this information be post on the wiki so that other poeple who may got similar problem won't need to investigate it again?

Clark

It sounds like you are using bob (2x) as your deinterlacer - try
changing that within the video display profile (settings->playback...)
