[mythtv-users] Sony BDRemote

I thought I'd report that I've moved a step closer to having my
"perfect" HD front-end by getting the Sony BD Remote Control working
with my diskless/silent Zotac IONITX and MythBuntu 9.10 alpha running
trunk 0.22.

While I've never had success in getting any of the other BDRemote
approaches working with ubuntu 8.10/9.04/9.10, the approach (blueman and
a patch to bluez to enable timeout and automatic re-connect) detailed in
this thread:
     http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50717
works great, deals with earlier battery drain issues, and co-exists with
Bluetooth HID. I use the Logitech Cordless Mediaboard Pro (inexpensive
Bluetooth keyboard with integrated touchpad) whenever I want to use a
full keyboard with the front-end.

(I know some of you are wedded to your Harmony IR remotes.... I have no
wish to start a religious war on IR vs. Bluetooth, but I personally
prefer Bluetooth for the range and the fact it doesn't require
line-of-site. My front-end is mounted entirely behind my monitor, out
of site. And the remote can be had for $25.)

Only two problems left at the moment:
1) a small niggle -- the BD Remote uses separate key depress/release
events, and I can't figure out how to make keys auto-repeat through lirc.
2) I haven't been able to make wake-on-USB work with the Zotac, even
though I supposedly have a motherboard that supports it. (Has ANYONE
got this to work?)

Phil
