Sounds to me like an issue with openGL-switched on, but driver for card 
not loaded. I had this once, I went to mythweb and via settings changed 
the themepainter to QT or default or something. Afterwards I could 
enable the driver for my videocard and enable opengl again.
Be carefull changing it there, your safest bet might be to exit frontend 
and see if you have a good driver for your videocard.
