All I can find is desktop to laptop hard drive adapters.

Laptop cd/dvd drives use a funny connector that I've never seen
anywhere else.  It is much smaller than a 2.5" laptop IDE connector.
It supplies power in addition to data.  Hmm.  Maybe it's some other
interface and not IDE.  They have been using the same connector
for a long time, long before I even heard of a SATA drive.
