I'm running trunk.  Before updating to r22456, with a version at most
2 days out of date, I removed all png files and observed a
several-second UI freeze when the lowly ION first generated a preview
image.  Then I updated and tried the same test.  Now, I can still move
between recordings with the remote even if the preview generation has
not completed.  I happen to have the setting for the frontend to
generate the preview image (combined FE/BE test machine, so I didn't
think it would matter much).
