[mythtv-users] "generic" tuner/recorder

Hi All.

Let's say I had a device that was capable of recording a given program
if it was told the channel, starttime and run length , but the only
"API" to that device was a command-line tool.

What would be cool to utilize that device would a "tuner" in mythbackend
which simply executes a prescribed command (with arguments) and watches
and waits for the file that it tells the command to put the recording
into to show up.

Before anyone asks, the details of the device are unimportant and I
won't digress into talking about it. What is important is this
"generic" tuner in the backend.

Would such a tuner be a welcome patch to mythtv, if it's not already
achievable in some manner or another.
