OK, I got the package from debian-multimedia. I guess the options have
changed for 0.22, as it's failing with:

selene:/data20/mythtv/tmp# /usr/bin/transcode -i
/data20/mythtv/tmp/Big_Trouble_in_Little_China/vob/ -g 720x480 -M 2 -y
xvid -o /data20/mythtv/movies/Australia.avi --log_no_color -R 2,twopass.log
/usr/bin/transcode: unrecognized option `--log_no_color'
transcode v1.0.7 (C) 2001-2003 Thomas Oestreich, 2003-2004 T.
Bitterberg, 2004-2008 Transcode Team
'transcode -h | more' shows a list of available command line options.

If I remove the --log_no_color option, I get a bit further but still no joy:

selene:/data20/mythtv/tmp# transcode -i
/data20/mythtv/tmp/Big_Trouble_in_Little_China/vob/ -g 720x480 -M 2 -y
xvid -o /data20/mythtv/movies/Australia.avi -R 2,twopass.log

Grrrr....

I guess I'll build latest transcode from source.....
