Well it is probably good value for the money. But the 8400 can't to do
the highest quality VDPAU deinterlacers with 1080i content. I think
you can do some of the 1x deinterlacers but it can't do Advanced 2x.
It can do all of the decoding, so the higher end deinterlacers would
be the only set back. I use the 8400 with SD content and Advanced 2x
deinterlacing and it works very well and the results are excellent.

You seem to want some future proofing, so you may be better off
getting a little bit higher end card. I am not sure where the cutoff
is for the deinterlacers, but I think the 8500 or 9500 and up should
be able to handle Advanced 2x. The challenge then is to find one that
is powerful enough and still fanless.
