I have used them, they are a little more involved getting them to work.
There needs to be another daemon running in addition to lircd that
depends on kernel and various other drivers a little more then usbuirt.

they are a little smaller and have more channels in them then the usbuirt does.
so more external boxes can be controlled with 1 usb device.

in the end I preferred uirt and the little wired IR heads that I plug into it.
