Thanks to both of you who responded. 

These links look really good. 

As for the database location, I think I will initially try it on my backup RAID
and see how it goes.. I only have 2 bays spare and want to use them to extend the
media RAID over time. I may go the other way and use the external drive for the
bt client...... funny that I've just triggered off a copy of ARCH right now...
