I have had a brief play with XBMC and liked the fact that each area
had a "settings" button close at hand in the menuing system. Like in
watch videos you could easily add another source from right there, no
backing out and then through myriad menues to find the settings, then
reverse the process to get back to the playing.

OTOH putting the settings too close to the "user" bits means its
easier for a non technical user to stuff things up.
