I have imported gear before. In NZ we have GST (like UK VAT) which is
imposed at the border. It is 12.5% but is not imposed and if there is
less than $50 GST involved (ie cost of goods is $400 or more, thats
the total value of the shipment, not each item in the box). I only got
stung for it once, on an import where a number of us clubbed together
to buy DVB-S cards. We could have ordered individually and avoided any
GST, but the extra freight would have been prohibitive.

Why not order cards from the US? Well I keep getting told eBay is full
of crooks, newegg only ships to the US, and I haven't had time to
properly look for other sellers. I have a a friend in Phoenix who I
could get newegg to ship to and then he could send them on, but last
time I did that with an eBay item that the seller would only ship in
the US the cost of on-sending was quite high.

Maybe I should just contact Sparkle and corner the Australasian market
for PCI VDPAU cards? Well really I don't have the time to set myself
up as a computer parts dealer!
