That could be my mistake, I should have said
/home/user/.mythtv/config.xml
In my case the dedicated console user is 'tv' so mine is in:
/home/tv/.mythtv/config.xml

There is no config.xml in my /home/mythtv/.mythtv

Again, my apologies. Hope it works out ok.
