I've not got a cure, but I do have one of the power buttons on my MCE remote
bound to 'pkill mythfrontend' which usually means I can quickly kill and
restart the frontend when something like this happens. (I start the frontend
from welcome.)

I assume it's a frontend issue rather than lirc.
