s-video that is failing you.

Have you looked on the nvnews.net forums for advice on getting s-video work=
ing?

Does it work ok on a monitor or TV via VGA, DVI or HDMI?

The driver versions available can be seen here:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=3Dnvidia-glx

Also JY Avenard keeps up to date versions in his repositories at
http://www.avenard.org

I strongly recommend NOT using envy or downloading the drivers direct
from nVidia, package managers are there for a purpose. If you need to
plug a monitor in so that you can see the the screen and get the
drivers installed.

If s-video is not working on your 8600, buying another card that uses
exactly the same drivers, and probably the same TVout circuitry
possibly won't fix things for you.

Unfortunately it seems to generally be the case that support for
anything SD related, whether it be composite, s-video, or whatever is
being phased out or given lip service to in the move to digital
interfaces such as DVI/HDMI. The unfortunate thing is that there are
still a lot of very good TVs out there without HDMI connectors!
