Ah, I left case, motherboard, psu, etc. out of it, I was just counting  
the controller and the drives. I stumbled into $40/drive, used, coming  
from a storage server at my mother's office, of all places. They were  
pulling the 250G drives for 400G or 500G drives. The drives were less  
than a year old and still under warranty, so I figured why the heck  
not. Only had one drive fail on me in ~3 years of use, and got it  
replaced via RMA, no problem. (Hitachi drives, fwiw).
