[mythtv-users] HD-PVR resolution detection

I checked. The issue is the container, not the file. Mplayer knows about 
it and doesn't consider it a bug. However, it is in MythTV. It shows up 
in the Perl Bindings, which use mplayer in file Recording.pm to get 
information about MPEG files. Therefore it becomes a MythTV problem, and 
I've filed it as Ticket #6774.

The problem is with your method of resolution detection. Both Myth
and ffmpeg (ffmpeg -i file) detect the resolution fine. The
deficiency is with mplayer/trying to get the resolution this way. You
can probably submit a bug to the mplayer folks, though.
