[mythtv-users] Alternatives to cable firewire

I just switched to the HD-PVR 1212 after a recent software upgrade by
Time Warner Cable disabled all firewire options. I also installed a
cheap 8400GT Nvidia card for VDPAU. Recording is perfect, playback is a
bit buggy, but that may be the cheap part of the graphics card as
opposed to a software issue. I think the 190 Nvidia driver is fixing
that, implying it was a software issue(just not a MythTV one), but I
just installed it as I write this and haven't had time for full testing.

It is fairly stable. My biggest problem is that exporting to a video
file is now a 2 step process. Mythtranscode doesn't support lossless
transcoding on H264 encoded files, nor has Nuvexport yet been altered to
support exporting from them. Thus the only way I can think of to cut the
commercials and then export is to use Mythtranscode to convert the H264
back to NUV then use Nuvexport without trying some more untested hacks
of the system.

MythTV 0.22 seems to be working very well, aside from a mythtranscode
segfault that was quickly fixed. I'm looking forward to its stable edition.

If you are willing to go bleeding, and contribute to the process of
finalizing 0.22 by contributing detailed bug reports, you might want to
give it a shot.
