Plays fine in mplayer , not with VDPAU it isn't....

mplayer shows exactly the same error as MythTV : Display pre-empted...

You're using the VDPAU backport which can not recover from such error:
if you get such error it stops any playback.

use mythtv trunk, it can recover from such errors.
