[mythtv-users] No sound via HDMI on my Yamaha RX-V465 A/V receiver

Thank you for your reply and sorry for my late reply ;-)

I finally managed to get 5.1 surround sound out of my Yamaha via HDMI.
There's no need of an asound.conf.

The problem was with the NVIDIA driver.
When using metamodes and the "Force full gpu scaling" setting is
checked, then there's no sound on my AVR.
Simply unchecking this "Scaling" item (or disabling metamodes) does the
trick.

I don't have any idea why this isn't working when using metamodes and
enabling "gpu scaling".
I also figured out why I don't have sound when upgrading the kernel in
MythDora to the latest version - it reverts back alsa to 1.0.17 -
there's no support for my HDMI ;-)
So, when someone is about to upgrade the kernel in MythDora: keep in
mind to compile and install the latest alsa driver. There's no
difference for my HDMI with alsa 1.0.18a and 1.0.20.

This resolved all my further issues with mythtv: choppy sound with ac3
when cpuspeed daemon is running, choppy video playback with internal
player playing iso-files and audio being out of sync when using ac3
audio in liveTV.

The settings in MythTV are:

General setup:
Playback device: ALSA:hdmi
PassThrough device: ALSA:hdmi
Max audio Channels: Stereo (seems to be some bug in myth?!)
Both PassThrough items checked

Audio setup:
Playback device: ALSA:plughw:0,3 (this is for an ASUS M3N78-VM, change
according to aplay -l)

Thanks

Bjoern
