LinuxMCE is running a version of myth that is two years or so out of
date (and soon to be two full revisions behind).  They also make
modifications to it such that it does not behave exactly as Myth is
supposed to.

You are doing it the correct way.  Sounds like one of the
modifications they make is preventing you from changing this.
