Sure. Check out any of the posts about LiveTV being slow. You should
find a whole lot of information about what happens when starting to
watch a program. Some of it has to do with changing channels and
switching tuners, etc. but you'll also find information about the
amount of time it takes to start watching video.
Also, run mythfrontend with -v all so you can see all the things it's
doing before watching and try to find your bottlenecks there. MySQL is
typically one - especially if the database is on the same drive as
your recordings or doesn't have enough memory allocated to cache
queries.
