But that doesn't answer the question of what does your convertor box 
output on its coax connection.  Is it NTSC on Channel 3 or is it some 
sort of digital signal.  My money is on the former.  If you don't mind 
recording an analog conversion of the original digital signal, that may 
ultimately be what you are stuck with.

Does anyone else know better?
